During the summer season, we can use technology to stay cool and comfortable inside our homes. Our air conditioning units work hard to keep us cool as temperatures rise. It’s important to remember that they will continue to work hard throughout the summer months. It is probable that your energy bills will rise as a result. However, you can opt to use an energy-efficient temperature setting that will assist in keeping your energy usage under control while simultaneously keeping your home cool and comfortable. Our Hilliard-Dublin Heating & Air team can guide you in discovering the most beneficial energy-efficient AC setting for this summer.

THE SUGGESTED AC TEMPERATURE:

We believe that there is no universal perfect temperature for air conditioning that applies to all families and locations. However, the U.S. Department of Energy recommends a starting point of 78°F (26°C) for an optimal air conditioning temperature. While this may seem warmer than what you’re used to, it’s important to find what works for you and your family. This temperature recommendation can help you start finding your ideal AC setting.

THE STRATEGY FOR FINDING YOUR IDEAL AC TEMPERATURE:

To begin, set your thermostat at the recommended temperature of 78°F. Wait a few hours for your AC to adjust and see how your household reacts. After several hours, adjust the temperature by 1-2 degrees as needed. Repeat this process over a few days until you find a comfortable temperature, which will help reduce energy consumption.

THE AC TEMPERATURE TO USE WHEN YOU LEAVE FOR A TRIP:

During summer vacations and weekend getaways, your home may be left unoccupied and your air conditioner running. Keep in mind that turning it off completely is not a good idea as it may lead to heat and humidity buildup and cause damage inside the home, especially to houseplants, art, collectibles, etc. So, what should you do? To save on energy costs and safeguard your home while you’re out enjoying summer activities, increase your thermostat setting by 10 degrees from your regular setting before leaving the house. This is a safe and effective method for reducing energy consumption. By doing so, you may be able to save up to 5-15% on energy costs!

THE MOST ENERGY-EFFICIENT THERMOSTAT:

You should definitely consider getting a smart thermostat if you haven’t already, as it can help you achieve your energy-saving goals. Adjusting the temperature settings based on your work schedule and daily routine can greatly decrease your energy consumption. On top of that, if you are prone to traveling or going on getaways here and there, it can be a vastly beneficial tool for you. Picture this; You planned a big family vacation but forgot to turn the thermostat up before leaving. No big deal! You can easily control your thermostat settings from the convenience of your smartphone. Because of this, you can now have a worry-free trip without unnecessary energy consumption. Additionally, you can set the temperature to a more comfortable level upon your return, so you can relax as soon as you walk back into your home. If you have a busy summer planned and still don’t own a smart thermostat, consider giving us a call. We’d be happy to answer any questions you may have.
